Downton Country Film Locations Tour

Become Lord or Lady Grantham for the day  and explore some of the film locations used for the hit TV series Downton Abbey including Downton Village, Downton Place and the home of the Dowager Countess.

Please note, that we do not visit Downton Abbey due to the very limited opening times of Highclere Castle.

This tour will showcase some of the wonderful scenery, villages and historic properties that have been used in the show. The tour will also give you an insight into the making of the show as well as the wonderful history of the places we visit on the tour.

Morning – Downton village, Kirkbymoorside and The Swan Inn

You will depart from central London by luxury mini coach and take a 90 minute (approx) journey to reach the heart of rural Oxfordshire where several villages have been used in the world of Downton Abbey. Most notably we visit Downton Village where you will get a guided tour of familiar sites such as Downton hospital, the village pub, the home of Matthew Crawley and the local church. A short comfort break will be taken here. We will also take a short stop at Kirkbymoorside which was used as the pretty setting for the pub where Bates works when he leaves Downton Abbey. A visit to the pub where Branson and Lady Sybil elope in the second series is included too.

Lunch – Downton Place

The next stop will be at the beautiful grounds that were used as the setting of Downton Place in series 3. Here lunch can be taken and you will be able to explore the 16th century house and grounds.

Afternoon – Dower House

You will finish the day with a guided tour of the property used as Grantham House and enjoy tea in the ‘Downton Room’ where many of the scenes featuring Maggie Smith take place.

The tour ends at Gloucester Rd Station.

Price includes transport by luxury air-conditioned mini coach, professional guide, entry fee for Downton Place and afternoon tea. Gratuities are at your own discretion. Lunch is not included.

Meeting point – Gloucester Road Tube London Underground Station (District, Circle and Piccadilly lines). Your guide will be standing outside Flowers Inc next to the station.
